Reverb Prompt: Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
I made a Christmas ornament and I am not a "crafty" person in the slightest, but Carol brought three kits of "make-your-own" ornaments to Hard Labor and before breakfast yesterday I sat down with the Christmas bell kit and followed the instructions and strung the three bells together using the enclosed wire and then carefully threaded the ribbon through the top, along with the fake greenery and berries, substituting the wire berries for glue to hold on the fake greenery and about ten minutes after I started, I had a Christmas ornament. It's now hanging in my bathroom from the hook that would hold up a curtain rod, had I curtains there, but this apartment came with mini blinds and I am so not a decorate-the-place-cause -that-takes-away-time-from-riding,-running,-or-the-internet sort of gal. Later today I'll take a picture and edit this entry to include it so you can marvel over my awesome ornament-making skillz! ;-) (ETA: And I did! It's right up there!) There will be no tree upon which to hang my ornament because I never go all out for Christmas, but if I can get it together, I will hang some white lights around my windows for my neighbors to enjoy as I always appreciate Christmas lights during the dark, winter season and am sorry when they come down. I'd love if everyone left them on through March to ward off winter's gloom.
The big thing I'm making for 2010? A new life for myself. It ain't easy and I'm scared and excited all at once. I need to clear more time for figuring out what I want to do, where I want to go, and how I'm going to get there, but the day-to-day minutiae of life makes it easy to push the hard work of figuring that all out to the background. I must though, especially when the night vultures come and pick at my guts and wake me up at four a.m., just like tonight. Thank goodness for the shiny internet and wifi and laptops that keep me from obsessing over the scary stuff like I did for thirty minutes before giving in to the siren call of the web. No sense in fighting insomnia. I've learned it doesn't work.
Here, enjoy scenes from The Big Picture of all the snow and cold weather the world is enjoying, but DO NOT MISS this picture of the Berlin Cathedral taken by my friend, Stefan.
