The prompt from two days ago: Wonder. How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?
By keeping it simple. Simply put, I'm easily entertained, a cheap date if you will. I am fascinated by many things and constantly amazed by what's around me outside in the woods. I count myself fortunate every time I get a chance to ride a horse there and I marvel at the beauty, especially in the winter when the topography is so starkly exposed. Yesterday I saw fascinating fungus, trees with unusual shapes and barks, and a stream that was postcard perfect winding through a state park and I count myself blessed for getting to see these things and wonder, and doubly fortunate that I do so from the back of India or Asia. It's cheap and my friends and I marveled at the glorious woods and I am always surprised when I realize that there are people in this world who do not enjoy a walk in the woods. They are missing out.
So, my advice for those trying to cultivate wonder is not to look for the huge, amazing and inspiring events and reserve their wonder for those, but to notice the small stuff and find the wonder there. There's wonder in tree bark and fungus, there's also wonder in the beauty of a grapefruit and in the love of old friends.
