Sewanee: The University of the South

Tiger by William Blake

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

I'm off tomorrow for my reunion. I have no idea how it is that it's been that long since I graduated, but somehow it is. And oh, it's fitting that a liberal arts university whose mascot is a tiger would have the first verse painted on the gym wall.

The Seal of The University of the South

Ecce quam bonum et quam iucundum habitare fratres in unum. (Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.)

I'm meeting up with one of my best friends there and sharing a room at the convent. I doubt they have wifi, but who knows? I'm taking Six (my Macbook) and my Klein. In between reminiscing I hope to ride the trails.

Please, good thoughts for Kudzu. His cancer has returned and he's not doing too well. I took him back to the vet today and they did blood work and found out that his liver's enzymes and what nots are off the charts. He's staying there for the weekend so they can keep an eye on him. I knew he wasn't right when he didn't want the fancy, canned dogfood embellished with canned salmon (high in Omega 3's) last night. Sparky thought it her lucky day when I let her eat it, and yes, it was her lucky day. Kudzu needs some luck, so if you're inclined, I'd appreciate the good karma thoughts.
