Wadley Road

Change of plans this morning because of all the rain on Thursday. We feared that Horse Camp the Second would be so muddy in spots that the footing would be bad. Why risk injury to us or the horses? So I trailered to Joanna's and we went to Whatley Road, a long dirt road where the footing is always good.

The view down Wadley Road this morning

What I see when I look down. I am so pleased with this horse. She's just lovely.

Another view down the road. Starman, Joanna's horse, is just a smidge faster than Asia, so I've always got him or Leroy, the junkyard dog, to watch.

A mule before a palace. I boggle at these humongous houses being built on the dirt roads. The mule belongs to the people next door, but I thought it funny the juxtaposition of a mule and a McMansion. Lest you think the mule is in front of a tar paper shack, I'm here to disabuse you of that notion. The mule's house is quite extravagant, too, but is still a step down from this stacked stone behemoth. I imagine there's a battalion of hired maids to keep it clean. I couldn't imagine doing it alone. By the time you worked from one end to the next, the first would be dirty again. Oh, and this house may look finished from this distance, but they are still working on it. I've been watching it go up for about a year.

When we finished the ride, I turned Asia out in Joanna's big pasture to graze while I went inside and ate lunch. She alternates between enjoying the grass and running the fence line. I'm sorry I didn't start the movie three seconds earlier because she let out a huge buck. I caught the tail end of it at the very start of the movie. It's hard to see.

That last buck with her hind legs going up, well, she does that under saddle too if she's unhappy with the slow pace I've chosen. Thankfully, this mare is smooth. It's an easy buck to sit. She gets her ya-ya's out with that one buck as we pick up the canter and then she settles down into her stride. I do love this mare. She's a fun ride.

Go me! I figured out how to save a frame from the movie as a jpeg and now I've uploaded it. Go, Asia! This is how a horse says "Wheeeee!" This is the very first frame of the movie and the still shot shows you how high she was leaping.

And now? Now I've got laundry and dusting. Ugh. Where are the house faeries?
