Selma Irwin Trail Race

This morning was the third race in Middle Georgia Endurance's summer trail series and since I had a free entry thanks to winning my age group at the second one, I ran. Actually, more accurately, I hiked. I ran some, but I walked a lot too. The elevation on this one is all up followed by a lot of down and then a lot more up.

I had another great time and am looking forward to the next one, whose date and location are not yet decided. I love sweating out in the woods and today's amble gave me a wonderful opportunity to do just that as the temp was about 87 degrees Farenheit (30 Celsius for those checking in from outside the US) with 74% humidity. Yes, it was more like swimming at times and I was glowing within a minute of starting.

I'm slower than slow, but I have a good time. The overall winner did it in some extremely fast time that makes me think he's not real, more like a bionic man, and the first woman was fourth overall. She's probably bionic, too. They, and the other 14 participants, had to sit around the start for 40 more minutes before I finished, and then it was another four or five for the last person out to cross the finish.

If the embed code works, here's a link to the Garmin stats from my race. You can see how slow I am, and admire the up and down elevation changes the entire 4+ miles. Look in the bottom right corner of the Garmin box for the "view details" and click on that.

Elevation Gain: 1,520 ft
Elevation Loss: 1,504 ft
Min Elevation: 248 ft
Max Elevation: 513 ft

Proof of how up and down this one was.
Now, to shower and eat chocolate.

Holy cow, that's quite a race. You earned your chocolate!

You must be getting all of our summer weather. Up here in the Northwest we're still so cool that backpackers can't get through on trails they normally hike this time of year!
