NINJAS!!!!

I've been getting the girls ready for Ashland Farm's Halloween Hunter Pace by regular applications of Show Sheen and Venice Turpentine and when Caroline arrived last Friday, they were very close to ready. A quick scrub of Babe's sock to get it shiny white, more Show Sheen and then Saturday we were off to Walnut Grove in Jenny's 3-horse trailer. Yes, even Asia in a fully enclosed trailer! It was great fun and we went to the party as ninjas.

Here we are: Jenny on Windy, Caroline on Babe, and me on Asia. Note how shiny Babe's back sock is. Yes, it gleamed!

Note the cool ninja masks made by a tailor for the horse ninjas. The horses seemed to enjoy getting in character, too. Here's a picture of Babe modeling her ninja mask. Love the electric forelock!

And Asia in hers.

Windy enjoyed peeking around the trailer while wearing her ninja mask. I believe that she didn't think anyone could see her when she was wearing it.

The horses all had ninja throwing stars attached to their bridles, as seen below on Windy and then Asia.

And we had throwing stars handy for the ninja riders, too. See Babe's? Here she is at the end of our ride with Caroline untacking her.

Here Jenny and I head out on Asia and Windy at the start of our ride.

Caroline and Babe were right behind us. Babe may be 25 or 26 years old, but she was having a great time and kept up and had plenty of go left when we finished. She even jumped a few of the telephone poles out on course.

All six ninjas heading out on the hunter pace.

We rode through the lovely woods and fields of Ashland Farm for over an hour and when we finished, we took care of the horses by hosing them off and squeegeeing them down and stuck around for a bit chatting with Corrie Land and her crew, who had parked their trailers right next to ours. It was great to catch up with Corrie.

and then found out that we'd placed second, so Caroline got to take home a lovely red ribbon. Hooray!!

Fun with horses. Really, it doesn't get any better. The people at Ashland Farm are wonderful and I can't rave enough about what a first class event they have with lovely facilities, great food, and such friendly folks running it all. I'm sad that I have to wait until next June before they have another hunter pace.
