Happy Thanksgiving two days late to those of you who celebrate such. I spent the day in South Carolina with family that I don't see often enough. We had a wonderful time and it was capped by a sing-a-long with my cousin Ernie on guitar. My cousin Jane and I, along with Ernie and his wife, Blair, and my sister, Margaret, sang a lot of John Denver and Jimmy Buffet. It was so apparent who in the group of sixteen was over the age of 45 and who wasn't, for those of us who were (and under the age of 60) could suggest songs to sing that Ernie remembered the chords and Blair, Jane and I did an impromptu version of Loggins & Messina. The sing a long lasted for at least an hour and I had such a good time. I love to sing in a group; I was in a chorus in high school that I had to audition for and I miss the harmonies and fun that come from singing with other people. I was also amazed by how many lyrics I could remember. It was fun.
Today I've been hanging out with my best friend and her family in the north Geeorgia mountains. We took a five mile hike and although it was chilly, I had a great time. Could have gone further, but we had to be back before the sun set. Now we're enjoying a Stone Pale Ale and watching the best movie in all the world, The Man from Snowy River. A friend of mine at Sewanee described this movie as being about the three most important things in life: horses, mountains, and falling in love. So true. :-)
I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend full of good friends who love you and who have known you forever, and if you're not with friends from an ancient age, with good people doing something you love.
