I ran!

Well, I just ran a 5k (3.1 miles) with absolutely no training whatsoever. Haven't laced on the running shoes since last October, but decided to enter this race anyway because the shirt is cool and proclaims its wearer to be a superhero and hey, I'm all about being a superhero and having spiffy t-shirts. So, I entered and thought to myself that I'd walk it. No shame in walking even though 12 years ago I was all about running the 10k they have at the same time and thought I'd be running forever. Oh, I was young and stupid.

So, I talked a cycling friend into signing up too, with the promise that we'd walk cause she's never run more than 1/4 mile (the length of her driveway). Heck, she had to go out and buy running shorts for this. So, at the start we line up in the way back with all the other walking types and the race starts and we pick up a jog and damned if we didn't jog the whole thing. We even sprinted at the end! Our time was in the 33 minute range: slow, but respectable. And we ran all the way up the killer hill between miles one and two!

This proves what I've often thought: The first day back exercising is easy. It's the second day that sucks rocks. Well, no worries there as I've decided that the next time I'll run will be Labor Day, 2010.
