This Ain't the Pig Trail! Scenes from our grand adventure in the north Georgia mountains yesterday

Scenes from our grand adventure yesterday riding Mountain Town Creek Trail in north Georgia. We got on our bikes, headed down the trail and the sky fell. Opened up and poured rain, complete with lightening and thunder. Our shuttle service had already left, so we kept on. Despite the rain and the chilly temps, we had a great time. Beth's bike picked up two sticks in its drive train and that caused her chain to break. After the repair, she had a single speed, but she could pedal out, although she did have to walk the steep stuff. Thankfully, there were only a few of those. This trail is mostly downhill and follows Mountain Town Creek. We had to ford it at least six times and each time we did, it got wider and deeper. We'd inch across holding our bikes up out of the water, our mountain bike shoes and cleats struggling for purchase on the rocky stream bed. Great excitement! Thankfully, no one took a dive. The Klein exceeded expectations, proving that its 11 year old technology and awesome geometry still rock. I love this bike. We'd planned on riding Pinhoti 2 and Bear Creek Trails on our way back to Mulberry Creek, but since we'd taken twice as long to finish Mountain Town Creek and since Beth's bike was cursed and since we were soaked to the bone, once we got to a Forest Service Road, we cut back to Mulberry Creek Mountain Bike resort and took hot showers and got pleasantly dry and drank beer while waiting for dinner and watching the dogs play. We were bummed that we'd missed the other trails, but we had more than enough adventure and there are more weekends yet to come. Jack went with us and stayed at back where we were lodging, which is Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Resort. First class accomodations and food and run by the nicest folks around. He stayed in his crate in our cabin while we were biking, but when we were there, he got the run of the place and loved it. They liked Jack, too. We both can't wait to go back. As Beth said often, "Well, we certainly aren't riding the Pig Trail!" a trail we ride often in Macon that's got some nice technical stuff, but no creek crossings! We had a blast, despite the wind and the lightening and thunder and rain. We wondered what all the people who don't have mountain bikes (or horses ;) do on Saturdays? We couldn't imagine doing anything else.
