Well, I entered the Sandy Beach Cyclocross race this morning and loved it. I suffered for 34'27" and only did 5.5 miles. I got lapped by the fast women on faster bikes. I came in dead last. I still had a great time.
Here's what the website has to say about this race:
Like spaghetti and meatballs is the Sandy Beach Park and Georgia Cyclocross. Back by popular demand this Macon venue is a classic that dishes out painful climbs, screaming dirt road sections and of course a beach section that is on par with Gloucester (sans the ridiculous run-up just afterwards). Georgia Cross veterans will recognize the course from years past but don’t let experience be your ace in the hole. This course is likely to chew up and spit out even the fittest. Team Bike Raising is hosting a bicycle and spare parts collection so tear the lid off your old parts bin, dust off (or leave the dust on) that rickety old ride in your basement and bring your goods to the race. Everything collected will be donated to Bicycles For Humanity. See you SUNDAY!
Well, I'm slow, but I don't think the race spit me up so much as just wore me out. I really only bike one day a week and we never bike to train, we bike to have fun. My bike handling skills were excellent, but dang, I'm SLOW!
I was also disappointed that there were only two barriers to jump off my bike and jump over. I thought cyclocross was supposed to have lots more. My jumping off skills are not bad, but I am very slow (see a theme here?;) with getting back on and getting started again.
If I could find a money tree, I'd be surfing the web for a cross bike.
