Hitchiti Trail Walk

Yesterday's violent storms never turned into a tornado for us, but brought plenty of rain and a cold front with it. I woke this morning to 25 mph winds and 48 degrees. I ran this morning and felt as though I was being blown away, as well as slogging through a vat of peanut butter. There is something about running in daylight that disagrees with me because the last four weekends, when I've run after the sun comes up, I've endured. I've not run, I've slogged. It's very discouraging.

I met Elaine and Richard at the barn this morning and although I'd worn my Irideon winter riding tights under my LLBean flannel-lined jeans, that was as close as I came to riding today. Honestly, when the wind is gusting across the fields like it has all day, I become a riding wuss. It's cold and the wind rattles my bones and makes the horses really spooky because (so I've been told way back in the day when I was reading and learning so much about horses, so I was probably fourteen) they can't tell where the possible threats might be as the wind makes it impossible for them to tell, so they're extra spooky on windy days as they're convinced that there are cougars everywhere waiting to pounce. Whether this is true or not, they are extra spooky on windy days and I decided that I was not going to ride and possibly get hurt. So, after grooming both Asia and India and then turning them out, Elaine and I went to hike our favorite trail in the Hitchiti.

In the woods, the wind was still whipping through the trees, but we'd get into a low point and the temp was quite pleasant. I should have taken off one layer of pants before hiking as I was quite warm by the walk back, but I never came close to dying of heat stroke.

The creek was up after all the rain and the rocks that we normally walk aways out into the Ocmulgee were covered except for about ten feet.

We had a good hike and I'm so glad that Elaine is always up for it.
