Yesterday afternoon I had to get this lightweight turnout sheet from the barn to the horse trailer, about 1/3 a mile away, so I used India as a pack horse. It was too hot to put it on her and buckle the buckles and fasten the belly straps, but not too hot to fold it up and throw it over her back and ask her to walk it down to the trailer, so I did. She gave it the hairy eyeball as I slung it over, but other than that, she was a champ, even when it made all sorts of jingly noises as she walked and when it slid off and landed between her legs half way there. So, back on it went, although I put it a little higher up her neck, and we finished the short walk. Once there, I tied her to the trailer while I folded the sheet and put it in the blanket case I keep. Earlier I'd opened it up and spread out Asia and India's coolers on the grass to sun, as well as pulled out my fancy saddle pad left over from my fox hunting days and some other stuff that could use a good sunning. India stood nicely while I rearranged and straightened. I figure it's always good practice to stand tied to the trailer, even if we're not going anywhere.
We did go to 1099/Horse Camp on Saturday and India did a good job leading when I asked. Yay, India!
