The assembled crowd for the New Year's Day ride. This year it was about 65 degrees when we started out. After an hour, Carol, Hillary and JoAnna peeled off to return to the barn, but Elaine, Maurisa and I stayed out another hour and had a grand time. I only ride Carol's trails about twice a year, so parts look familiar, but I've never learned them. You'll see how circuitous they are below where I'm putting the Garmin stats. I know that Asia knows the trails well, so anytime we got to an intersection, if she wanted to go left, well, I directed her right knowing that she would take us back to the trailer as quickly as possible. And once we did decide to head back, Asia quickly got us there and it's a good thing she knows the trails because I certainly would have been lost. Heck, I was lost. Hooray for great trail mares with homing instincts!

Elaine on Lady, Asia's BFF, and Maurisa on Pony Pie. It's funny to me, but Asia really dislikes PonyPie. If he got too close, well, what Asia considered to be too close, she'd pin her ears and snake her head towards him telling him very plainly to GET BACK. Pony Pie is feisty, but he has common sense. He got back. ;0)

Asia, the Incredible Trail Horse. Really, she was just about perfect. She loaded in Elaine's fully-enclosed three horse, she was quiet while being tacked up, she was happy to go fourth in line and didn't get fussed when two other horses acted silly, she took minimal urging to take over as lead horse when we split into two groups, she stood so quietly when we stopped, she rated nicely on the trail, she popped over the small jumps Carol has on her property, and best of all, she got us back to the trailer. Asia is my Rock Star.
