Good Things

Good things happened yesterday and today.

My running shoes have 300 miles on them and I've felt my left ankle twinge a few times, so I knew I had to replace them. They're expensive, $109 retail, but really, that's only 36 cents a mile, which is a bargain for staying sound, so I resigned myself to heading to Run Fit Sports and buying a new pair. When I got there yesterday afternoon, the guy working went back to fetch me a new pair and came back with a real find. It seems that they had one pair in my size of version 5.0, which is what I was running in and bought last January, and it was on sale for $63.99. Wow! Almost half off the price of version 7.0, and I like the color of 5.0 much better, as it's got blue accent stripes rather than yellow.

Then, this morning while on my run I got to the intersection of Ridge and Ingleside and there were cars wanting to turn left off Ridge onto Ingleside and right off Ingleside onto Ridge and there I was, shining like an airport landing beacon with my front blinkie and my reflective vest and my reflective tights and not only did everyone see me, they all stopped and waited for me to run through the intersection. Bless them! I never take for granted that I'll be seen or that even if I am that the cars will let me have the right of way and often this caution pays off because I've had to dodge traffic before, but today? Today they patiently waited and I ran through, blinking up a storm as it was still dark, and I waved at all the cars and mouthed "Thank You!" and picked up my speed to hurry through and then I motored on up the hill by the park and made it back and had a nice run.

And now it is the weekend and there will be horseback riding and mountain biking and I'm about to head to bed and read a good book. Sparky is already on the bed, snoring on the down comforter, warming up my side of the bed.

And here's a quote from Joseph Campbell that resonates:

"People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.”
~The Power of Myth

Stay warm and wear your blinkie and go for a run! I hope you find the rapture of being alive this weekend, whatever that means to you.
