Rode Asia this afternoon rather than India because sometimes, I just want a ride where I'm not having to think about schooling, but more about just putzing around a cow pasture checking the cows, and that's what we did. However, we did end up schooling some as I rode with Elaine and Maurissa and we played leap frog, which is lining the horses up single file and then the last horse trots past the two in front and then goes on a ways and then comes to a walk. The two horses being passed must be good and not break into a trot when the trotting horse comes by, and after a couple of passes, Asia got the hang of it.
We also took turns standing two at a time in the middle of the huge hayfield while the third horse trotted or cantered in large circles around the two in the center. Asia is more than happy to stand rock solid quiet in the ring while other horses zoom around, but this was not as easy for her. I spent a lot of the time we were in the center asking her to turn in a very small circle whenever she started to fidget or walk and as soon as I felt her offer a stop, I released the tension on the rein. She got better as we kept doing this, but I can tell we need to go do this more often. When it was her turn to go out and trot or canter, she was fantastic. Lovely forward trots and nice, collected canters.
I love the Queen Mother. She's just so much fun to ride.
