We were invited cubbing (pre-season hunting) today and I'm so glad I went. It was worth getting up at 4:00 a.m. for views like this.
It's hot still, so polo shirts were permitted attire and the field was very small. I got to ride for 2.5 hours and enjoyed the riding, the very nice people who were hosting the hunt, and listening to the hounds work.
Here we are at the end of the hunt. Asia was a ROCK STAR!! She did so very well during the hunt, standing patiently at checks, rating nicely at a gallop (I think putting her in the Mikmar rather than leaving her in her regular D-ring snaffle was a wise choice; she goes well in the Mikmar and it takes barely any pressure to slow her, versus quite a bit of pulling and use of my seat when she's in the D-ring and going full clip) and generally being a joy to ride. And to top it all off, she loaded so very nicely coming and going.

Really, it doesn't get any better than today, although I'll admit that the 2.5 hour drive home was a bit tiring. However, I've had a nap, a shower, and a good meal and am ready to do it all again. Tomorrow morning I meet Jenny to continue India's education. Her summer break is over and I'm just so happy to be working the POTU again. Two days of riding? Bliss. :-)
