New babies and India

Calves from Edward the Bull's first calf crop are hitting the ground and they're adorable. There are seven so far and several of them are best described in Quarter Horse terms: they're heavy on the chrome. See above and below.

India and Jenny out for a spin. Even though I'm riding India more these days, there's still plenty for her to learn from Jenny. I've spent a lot of time talking about India learning to accept contact, but there's also responsiveness to the rider's legs. Jenny is asking India to leg yield and setting up for turns at the canter using her legs.

There is so much for a young horse to learn.

These pics were taken yesterday when the sky was blue and the temps were warm. Today the sky has been gray, the rain has been falling, and the wind has been blowing. March is making one last stand.

The Purpose of Time is to Prevent Everything from Happening at Once
by X.J. Kennedy

Suppose your life a folded telescope
Durationless, collapsed in just a flash
As from your mother's womb you, bawling, drop
Into a nursing home. Suppose you crash
Your car, your marriage—toddler laying waste
A field of daisies, schoolkid, zit-faced teen
With lover zipping up your pants in haste
Hearing your parents' tread downstairs—all one.

Einstein was right. That would be too intense.
You need a chance to preen, to give a dull
Recital before an indifferent audience
Equally slow in jeering you and clapping.
Time takes its time unraveling. But, still,
You'll wonder when your life ends: Huh? What happened?
